In Their Own Words
Before I got braces, I often felt slight pain and discomfort in my mouth. My teeth were crowded and didn’t line up correctly, which caused tension in my jaw, making chewing feel weird. I was also insecure about my smile, causing me to avoid showing my teeth in photos and to feel self-conscious when laughing or talking. It started to affect how I carried myself, even if I didn’t always realize it.
When I got braces, I was kind of excited. I knew they would help fix the issues I’d been dealing with, and not long into the process, I started noticing real changes. The pressure I used to feel started to go away, and my teeth slowly started to straighten. The discomfort I had gotten used to began going away, and I was starting to feel more comfortable overall, and it was the first time in a while that I felt comfortable about my smile.
I’ve missed a few appointments because I couldn’t afford to fix broken brackets or keep up with monthly payments. This has also been sort of painful because my gums start to swell on the teeth that have broken brackets. I know it’s important to stay consistent because my braces have influenced my confidence and changed the way I carry my smile.
