“One day, I’ll look in the mirror and see the smile I’ve always envisioned not just one that looks different but one that feels right.”

In Their Own Words

I’ve always appreciated my smile. It has accompanied me through my happiest times laughing with friends, blowing out birthday candles, and smiling through those funny moments.

However, there’s something I’ve always been aware of: the fact that my teeth don’t quite fit together as they should. And sometimes people tend to stare or make inappropriate comments about my teeth, which doesn’t make me feel good about myself and has led to some self consciousness. My overbite isn’t something I think about every day, but it’s there – a small flaw that can sometimes make eating uncomfortable.

I feel as though getting braces wouldn’t change who I am, but it would give me the opportunity to feel my best, knowing that something I’ve always wanted to fix is finally being addressed. It’s not just about appearance, it’s about comfort. Some people don’t realize how little things, like biting into a sandwich or chewing gum, can feel a bit off when your teeth don’t align properly. I’ve learned to adapt and to chew in a certain way or avoid foods that feel awkward, but I don’t want to keep adjusting forever. I want to enjoy my favorite meal without a second thought. I want to close my mouth and feel my teeth settle where they’re meant to be. It’s such a simple desire, yet it would make a significant difference in my daily life.

More than anything, getting braces would be about self-care. It would serve as a reminder that I don’t have to settle for “good enough” when I have the chance to improve something. I know it won’t be easy. I know there will be soreness and adjustments, but ultimately I’ll know I did something for myself – something that will have a lasting impact long after the braces are removed. One day, I’ll look in the mirror and see the smile I’ve always envisioned. Not just one that looks different, but one that feels right. And in that moment, I know I’ll be thankful not just for the transformation, but for the decision to make it happen.
